I found out today is #blackpoetsday. There are so many great poets among us past and present. Some of my favorites in no specific order:

- Kwame Alexander who made me love the poetry slams he hosted at Takoma Station years ago before full on gentrification.
- Langston Hughes who could have been my best friend for as smooth as I thought he was.
- Audre Lorde
- Tonya “The Hipster” Matthews because she is the bomb
- Sonia Sanchez
- Maya Angelou
- MC Lyte
- Rakim because those who can rhyme like him are definitely poets
- Countee Cullen
